Mrs. Washington (Lisa Bluhm) Going Away

My husband and I took a road trip to Bellevue to wish our new Mrs. Washington, Lisa Bluhm, good luck on her venture to the Mrs. America competition. She looked stunning as usual and I look forward to hearing about her progress in such a respected pageant. GOOD LUCK LISA!!!!

2010 Pageant

"Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose.”
I am grateful for each opportunity I have been given in my life. Each step I take gets me closer to my dreams of achieving the title of Mrs. Washington. This year running in the pageant has enriched my life in more ways then I can list and has given me friendships I hope will last a liftime. I am amazed at the beauty these women continue to show and the integrity that seems to be the foundation of their lives.

SAVE 2nd BASE

My platform has always had the focus of Aspergers syndrome due to the fact that my teenage son is on the Autism spectrum, however, this year I have redirected my platform to Early Detection of Breast Cancer. I feel most women don't think to perform monthy self exams in their 20's or even 30's due to breast cancer affecting 'older' women. When I was 28 I noticed a sore small lump. I figured due to my age and having weaned my youngest child from breast feeding that all I was feeling was a sore or infected duct. I had brought this to my doctors attention who assured me at my age and with the lump being sore, that it wasn't an issue and should clear up on it own. 3 months later it was still a concern and I had a gut feeling to press the issue with my doctor. If I had ignored the small sore spot in my breast I might not be here today. I was at the beginning stages of breast cancer... in my 20's! The number 1 way to save your life is to be familiar with your breasts. Don't be afraid of them!! Early detection is key and breast cancer, if caught early, doesn't need to be a death sentence. 1 in 8 women at some point in thier life will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Treatments are more accurate and less evasive then in the past. I encourage all women, of all ages, with or without family history to perform monthly self checks and also encourage them to spread the word how easy it is to keep your breasts healthy.
